Proposals can look different for everybody, but the one thing that ties them together is the traditional engagement ring. It can feel difficult to know what type of ring you should choose and even more difficult to know what size the ring should be. Fortunately, there are several tricks to turn to.
Measure an old ring
If you know exactly which ring you want to give your loved one but are unsure of the size, there are several ways to go about it. The easiest is of course if your partner uses rings every day, then you can use these as a benchmark. Either you take the ring to one of our concept stores or you can trace the inner circumference of the ring on a piece of paper. Just keep in mind that different fingers have different sizes and that it can differ between the right and left hand.

Try out rings together
Another trick is to make up reasons why you should try different rings together, such as for a birthday or pretending to buy a ring as a gift to someone with similar hands as your partner. Another alternative is to buy a simpler silver ring as a birthday present, Christmas present or just as a surprise, if it doesn’t fit, it can be exchanged and you will get an indication of your partner's size.
There is also the more bold tip of using a piece of string to measure the ring size in secret when the person is asleep – but we recommend this tactic mainly for the daredevils.
Rent a ring to propose with
Our most reliable method is to simply use a rented ring for the proposal. Then you can be sure that your future fiancée or fiancé will get the engagement ring they want and that the sizing will be correct when you later choose your rings together. We have several rental rings in different styles among our Say Yes-rings.
